A friend of mine told me when the sun shines in Winthrop during winter the fields light up as if covered with diamonds. I think she was right. Earlier that morning I went cross country skiing. I reached a large field and at the far end there is a little bench half buried in a thick padding of snow. I skied to the little bench, sat down, and opened my thermos of cocoa. As I sat there, the fog began to swirl in patterns of white and grey as the sun struggled to see the earth. The fog fought valiantly but magically vaporized and left no trace of it's existence other than the hoar frost, left to sparkle back at the sun defiantly. Then, crystals began to form in the air and fall to the ground glinting in the sun. It's the closest thing I can imagine to being in a sno-globe. That was a good day.
