Fall is Upon Us

Fall Leaves.jpg

Well, no sense denying it, fall is here. I went to the Washington Park Arboretum to take pictures. The light was perfect but I missed the morning dew by about an hour. I seem to recall that standard macro equipment for nature photography includes a spray bottle of water. If I'd had one, I could have put some extra water drops in this shot for good effect.

I really am not all that happy with this picture. It's just OK. I under exposed it trying to keep from losing the top of the loose leaf from being over exposed. Sometimes I wonder how I would do with a roll of film compared to my digital shots. HDR didn't work for me either due to the subtle wind that kept shifting the branches.

Port Balintrae

Port Balintrae.jpg

Here's one from the vault. This is the view from my hotel room in Port Balintrae, Northern Ireland. It's a great little town without much of the tourist buzz of other areas in Ireland. I had to ride 3 trains, and two buses to get there. One of the trains was so old the floorboards were rotten and you could watch the tracks go by through the floorboards. The doors were so old you had to pull down the window and reach through to open the doors from the outside. The people here were great but there was a lack of a good local pub... other than the one in my hotel.
