Mt- Lillian  015.jpg

Scott and I went hiking on Saturday with the intention of finding Tronson Ridge. However, due to a wrong turn, we ended up hiking the opposite direction toward Mt. Lillian. A great hike none-the-less. The views were outstanding and the weather was very nice. Even spotted a group of six Elk wandering through Haney Meadow.

This is one of the Indian Paintbrush that we saw during the hike.

Camera = Canon 20D

Tobe - 2

Tobe3  367.jpg

Another from the Tobe series. The kitty was on a white blanket in the sun. It made for a unique, high contrast image. I need to find a table that relates depth of field to f-stop. This was f/4 and I thought the depth would have been sufficient to get the eyes in focus if I focused on the bridge of the nose... not the case with a macro lens I discovered. And of course I forgot to check my ISO settings. Good thing the 20D is so forgiving at 800.

Camera = Canon 20D
Lens = Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
Shutter = 1/1250 second
Aperture = f/4.5
Focal Length = 100mm
Exp Comp = -1.0 ev
Flash = off
ISO = 800

Tobe  364.jpg

This is a picture of my friends new cat Tobe. He's really mellow and was a good sport when I jammed the camera in his face.

Camera = Canon 20D
Lens = Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
Shutter = 1/1000 second
Aperture = f/8
Focal Length = 100mm
Exp Comp = 0 ev

Ribbons  318.jpg

I was wrapping a birthday present for a friend of mine and these ribbons looked very cool in the lamplight. I think the colors contrasted with my coffee table very well.

Camera = Canon 20D
Lens = Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
Shutter = 1/13 second
Aperture = f/4
Focal Length = 100mm
Exp Comp = -0.3 ev
Flash = off

Blue Drop

Blue Drop.jpg

You know when you can imagine what you want but you can't make it happen. It's like a little nagging thing in your brain that pesters you every day until you figure it out. Well, this is one of those things. I'll eventually get the shot I'm imagining in my mind. Until then, I'll just post the near misses and hope somebody likes them. I really like the specular highlight on the second rebound drop. It caught the light just right. I almost have the focus right.

Camera = Canon 20D
Lens = Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
Shutter = 1/125 second
Aperture = f/8
Focal Length = 100mm
Exp Comp = 0 ev
Flash = on (580ex + 500W studio light)
ISO = 400

Brace for Impact

Big splash_B&W.jpg

I continue to explore with the "drops" series. I'm having trouble with focusing the image. This one is 1/1600th of a second at f/11 and it still is a bit soft. Although, it has better focus than some of the others. Maybe I need to push the shutter even faster? Or, maybe I'll try a non-macro lens to see what happens.

Camera = Canon 20D
Lens = Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
Shutter = 1/1600 second
Aperture = f/11
Focal Length = 100mm
Exp Comp = 0 ev
Flash = on (580ex + 500W studio light)
ISO = 200

Drops 3.jpg

Here's another from the drops series. The most interesting thing is to see how each drop reacts differently... and how the tiny differences in the timing of the shutter release make for a different image.

Camera = Canon 20D
Lens = Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
Shutter = 1/1000 second
Aperture = f/3.5
Focal Length = 100mm
Exp Comp = 0 ev
Flash = on (580ex + 500W studio light)
ISO = 200
