Fish-ON

Fishing season is over in Washington for the winter. Hopefully the trout will be biting in the spring.

Fall is Upon Us

Fall is Upon Us

Well, no sense denying it, fall is here. I went to the Washington Park Arboretum to take pictures. The light was perfect but I missed the morning dew by about an hour. I seem to recall that standard macro equipment for nature photography includes a spray bottle of water. If I'd had one, I could have put some extra water drops in this shot for good effect.

I really am not all that happy with this picture. It's just OK. I under exposed it trying to keep from losing the top of the loose leaf from being over exposed. Sometimes I wonder how I would do with a roll of film compared to my digital shots. HDR didn't work for me either due to the subtle wind that kept shifting the branches.

Port Ballintrae

Port Ballintrae

Here's one from the vault. This is the view from my hotel room in Port Balintrae, Northern Ireland. It's a great little town without much of the tourist buzz of other areas in Ireland. I had to ride 3 trains, and two buses to get there. One of the trains was so old the floorboards were rotten and you could watch the tracks go by through the floorboards. The doors were so old you had to pull down the window and reach through to open the doors from the outside. The people here were great but there was a lack of a good local pub... other than the one in my hotel.

Fresh from The Pea Patch

Fresh from The Pea Patch

The Pea Patch is a public garden in Marymoor Park in Seattle, Washington. I didn't even know there was a public garden in the park until I happened to walk by it. There are several plots there for rent. They are 10 x 40ft plots so you have plenty of space to grow things. Lots of people have their areas all pimped out, looks pretty cool.

Met some really nice people who graciously allowed me to walk through their little plot of land to take pictures. I took the macro lens out and got some good flower shots. Found a couple of pumpkin patches that I'll post soon. The flower shots are getting old... I wonder if I can find a car show to take pictures at?

Valerian

Valerian

The wild flowers are in bloom along the Burke-Gillman trail near my apartment. Here's another one that I found nestled in a bunch of wild grasses that had dried up and gone to seed.

Wildflower

Wildflower

These flowers are just starting to come out on the Burke Gillman trail in North Seattle, Washington. They look like some crazy ancient plant, especially with the red center. When they are more fully open they are far more plain.
